VIDEO: Going regional with Teach For Australia

Have you ever considered moving for a job? What about moving to the breath-taking and remote Pilbara in the north of Western Australia to make a difference in young people's lives? That's exactly what some of our adventurous and passionate educators in our Leadership Development Program did, finding joy, connection and fulfilment through teaching in one of Australia's most beautiful places.

For Lee Thulborn (Cohort 2023) the pull to move to the remote region of the Pilbara in northern WA to teach was two fold: a new beginning, as well as the chance for an experience like no other.
'I considered staying in South Australia but I wanted a fresh start,' she shared in our new video on moving regionally with the LDP. After receiving a job offer from the deputy principal of Karratha Senior Highschool, she eagerly accepted and embarked on a journey to a small yet vibrant community.
It was clear on arrival how different Karratha was. 'When I first got off the plane, I got into my accommodation and I saw like all the red dirt and I felt the heat because I came in the middle of summer,' she said. 'It was so hot!'
However, the warmth of the local community quickly made her feel at home. 'As soon as I got to know some people, some of my colleagues and some new friends, it was great.'
'I loved it basically straight away.'
She already knows that she will stay past her two years in the program, testament to her experience and the relationships she has built through teaching.
